On 23rd of November 2014, two Kerala born
Indian Catholics Father Kuriakose Elias Chavara and Sister Euphrasia were
canonized by Pope Francis at St Peter’s Square in Vatican.
It is a matter of pride not only for the Christian
community but for all us Indians that two of ours had been graced with
Sainthood.
On 17th of February 2015, a felicitation
function for the said 'sainthood' was organized by a group from the Christian
community at New Delhi, where the Hon'ble PM of India Sh. Narendra Modi had
been invited as the Chief Guest.
In a very powerful speech delivered at the
said event the PM slammed religious bigotry and strongly reassured that his
government will not allow any group be it from the majority or the minority to
incite hatred.
The said statement from the PM is hailed
by many and I am one of them. I feel it's a very good course correction, provided it's taken to the grassroots. There are many wishes of mine but for
now would wish that the Hon'ble PM realizes and takes another course correction
i.e. in regard with the ‘Ordinance’ his government has brought on the RFCT LARR
act 2013 . This land bill is a very important one for the future of India, as
it replaced the draconian land bill of 1894 which the British had formulated. I
personally had worked very hard for this new law and would have been happier to
see upgrades to the same rather than its death.
