Rain is
considered acid rain if it is less than 7 on the pH scale. 7 on that scale is
clean water. In year 2008 Kwinana ( Australia ) had witnessed a
rainfall with 3 on the pH scale to hush-up the matter the authorities blamed in
on volcanic ash or wildfires, where as controversially that year Kwinana had
witnessed no major volcanic eruption nor was any large scale wildfire reported
. It is husheduply reported by insiders that the HiSmelt plant was responsible
but the officials didn’t report the same to save their friends at Rio Tinto
(one of the major miners in Australia and the operators of the said HiSmelt
plant).
Do find
year 2004- EPA of Australia’s additions about Acid rain at-
Also
find the year 2009 -New environmental legislation of the Govt. of South
Australian. A few months prior to the formal introduction of this legislation,
in apprehension Rio Tinto had to shut down its Kwinana HiSmelt plant-
By the
way this is the same HiSmelt plant which has been dismantled and brought to
Angul in Odisha by Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (JSPL). Angul is one of
top ten most polluted zones of India.
NMDC
(India) and Rio Tinto had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in August 2008, to jointly explore investment opportunities in India and abroad. NMDC
snapped ties in Sept 2011 (reasons still not clear).
Odisha is one of the world's key mining regions. Rio
Tinto had established a joint venture (Rio Tinto: 51 per cent) with Odisha
state owned Orissa Mining Corporation Limited (OMC) and NMDC Limited. This joint venture formed the cornerstone of Rio
Tinto's iron ore projects in India. This project included the development of
leases in Keonjhar and Sundergarh districts of Odisha. The Govt. of Odisha via
OMC also snapped ties with Rio Tinto (reasons still not clear). It is a strange
coincidence that the sitting CM of Odisha was the Union Cabinet Mines minister
of India in the Vajpayee Govt.
Australia
was one of the first to impose sanctions after the famous Vajpayee Nuclear test
Pokhran II. Australia had imposed a ban on sales of uranium to India. After the
Indo-US nuclear deal, sensing the high demand & high profitability in doing
business with India, the Australians lifted this ban.
The
chief election financiers for the year 2014 general elections are all set to do
big business in USA & in Australia. There is possibly supernatural profit
awaited by a handful….
